To complete this study of shelters and the associated adoption benefits of K9 Nose Work® for shelter dogs, Happy Sniffing Research is asking for $100,000. Yes, that seems like a very big ask, but please know that none of this funding is going into the pockets of the Happy Sniffing Research Team Members.
All members, including the director, chief science officer, any other staff and the board of directors are volunteering their time, expertise and experience for the purpose of bringing the joy and benefits of K9 Nose Work® to shelters and shelter dogs.

Why then, 100k?
The research study plan calls for a total of five shelters and spans a period of six months for each shelter. Each shelter will directly receive $1000 per month to help pay for a staff member or volunteer to assist with the K9 Nose Work® program for the approximate time of six hours per week. Each shelter will also receive the services of an NACSW-approved instructor to help manage, implement and provide K9 Nose Work within the shelter for a period of three times per week for the duration of the six months.
The instructor will also be responsible for the data collection for both the study group of six dogs and the control group of six dogs within their assigned shelter. This instructor will be granted $2000 per month for their services. Therefore, we are budgeting $3000 per month for each of the six months for each of the five shelters. This amount comes to $90,000.
The remaining $10,000 will be used for the scientific publication and public presentations of the research study.. The research study, once completed, will become available through public-access research. Presentations of the research will be given at large animal care and rescue organization conferences. Really, 100k is the bare bones of what is needed.

Every dollar counts.
It doesn’t matter the amount that you can contribute. Every dollar counts toward helping shelters and shelter dogs gain greater access to the real benefits of K9 Nose Work®. By showing that K9 Nose Work® can increase adoptability with statistically backed data, you can help shelters gain funding for K9 Nose Work® from all sorts of sources, and this in turn will help shelter dogs become more joyful, less reactive, more restful and less stressful. Wags to you.
